Will Eddie be able to swallow a dose of his own medicine?
by Kieran Butler
Eddie is now a self appointed comedian using the often repeated line that he
just tells jokes. Maybe he says what we are all thinking but don’t dare to say.
Like Bill Hicks.
Eddie is a put down comedian. A game show host who uses standard put downs on
children in his game show audience. He thanks Channel 7 for the hopeless
cameraman. He re-writes old gags using Carlton as the punch line.
Eddie said that fellow comedian Dave Hughes “hangs shit on people for a living”.
Dave Hughes actually writes world-class original material. But Eddie thinks that
the style of comedy that Eddie does is what comedy is, so Dave will just have to
wear that I suppose.
When Eddie is angry with you he doesn’t even bother with the comedy. He just
puts you down. He did it to me on SEN last year. He interpreted my question at
the Collingwood AGM regarding the veracity of his statements about Collingwood’s
role in the staging of the Richard Pratt Cup as promotion for my comedy show.
Which he couldn’t name properly. That’s irony by the way.
I have been satirising Eddie mercilessly for years. In my live shows and on SEN
radio. Stuff he does makes me laugh. But it’s not his jokes.
However, the most barbed satire is contained in my show
‘Ben Cousins – a rock opera’.
Eddie featured prominently in the real life narrative so he had to get a
guernsey. I promise that the show is no-holds-barred – and I mean it.
No doubt Eddie will believe I am just “hanging shit” on him. But I call it
satire. Either way, I look forward to seeing if Eddie will be able to swallow a
dose of his own medicine.
The show Eddie couldn’t name properly is called
‘Collingwood ruined my Life’. It’s on
April 10 at Victoria Park. Proceeds go to the Victoria Park Heritage Committee.
